Windows 3.11 was my second experience with Windows and I was only 14 years old in 1999.
Win 95 microsoft seems to have invented the “Plug and Play” that rarely worked, fixed a little in 98.
Windows ME was the horror of the hardware, it crashed without you having to do anything.
Windows XP was the first windows that worked satisfactorily (pity just catching viruses just hovering over links)
Win Vista only worked well on sturdy (and branded) hardware and tried to kill the previous version by DirectX 10, but took it in the “eye”
Win7 initially ran into a driver issue, but it was quickly fixed and was an almost crash-free system. Again tried DirectX to kill the previous version.
Since DirectX’s strategy didn’t work out, they killed the previous system for “no CPU support, no support for new versions of Office, and a whole bunch of clowning” not to mention that Microsoft is clowning around and getting update just for see the circus catch fire (so what the hell do I want to spend internet band downloading Candy Crush Saga or whatever other crap or even do a whole System Update on top just to change the windows theme, with the risk of having to reinstall everything)
CEIP (Customer Experience Improvement Program) is disabled by default on XP, that leaves the Error Reporting Service, that CAN be disabled too. Oh and what about the .NET Passport nag? It’s been removed since SP2

i respect your opinion, but imo it’s kinda the opposite, most people don’t ever dare to touch 8.1 just because of the start screen and ignores all the improvements it made.
