It also could be something like “project’12” or “project 2012” since it’s basically the first MSN revival that FULLY support windows live messenger 2011 and 2012.

WLM 2012 was my favorite version, especially because of how the photo and video sharing was implemented next to the chat window.
But I “abandoned” this site a long ago, so I won’t ask for early testing, I do not suit that role now.

Yeah that’s another roadblock I had, Completely new stuff it does with Gateway.
I wish I could give you my Gateway source code I had which my friend patched up a bit for it to work with iOS but I dont know where it is.
I will try to look up some docs I know he used in getting this stuff working if you would like that?

You could try looking at MSNPSharp code for gateway stuff I think thats one of the places he found info for the new gateway stuff iOS does. I will update you if I find anything more

Long polling? 
I haven’t poked at it myself, moreso because the oldest iOS device I have is an iPhone 7 :p.
Now that you say it, I do remember MSNP21+ clients supporting long polling on gateway. There’s something else too, but I forget what it is.

I liked that too. But I was not able to forgive them for taking the custom usernames away and forced users to use their live profile names (or not but then the e-mail adress was the username). So you either used your real name in WLM or you changed it but then you needed to use the new name on other places too… I know you was able to add nicknames for your contacts but it wasn’t the same. It was the main reason I sticked with WLM 2009 until MSNP18 was shut down. Then I started to use WLM 2012, I liked the GUI and the mentioned photo and video sharing feature (it did play YouTube videos inside that window so I did not need to open a browser tab) but the new username system always bothered me.
If they would kept the custom usernames it would be the perfect version.
And if I remember correctly I was not able to make Messenger Plus to work with WLM 2012. It did install but the logo and features never came up inside the messenger GUI. Of course I tried 5.50 and 6, not the ones which were made for WLM 2009 and earlier versions.
Now you made me remember about the usernames. 
Well still was my favorite version probably. The names did not bother me really, because I used a different e-mail address for messenger and everyday life.
I don’t remember if I ever used Plus! with WLM 2012 but I surely did with WLM 2011 and it worked.
But now this sounds really offtopic, so I finish here.
Funny part is display names are still separate from first and last name on web services, etc… so they could’ve allowed custom display names separate from your actual name on your account, they just didn’t

I guess forcing the first and last name was because of the SOCIAL part of the main window plus the Facebook account connection, etc. Probably they tought it would be strange to use and post on those sites with usernames/nicknames instead of real names.
