How do i patch WLM 2011/12 for escargot?
i really like the 2011/12 version
They haven’t managed to revive it, crosstalk did it but it’s still not fully supported yet, you can ask them to be a beta tester though, i doubt that escargot will continue the development because of the scandal which they have experienced ![]()
what scandal tho?
i dont think it will revived never. theres documentation missing . its been now more than 5 years and nother escargor or crosstalk acheive to revive.
Yep, gatekeeping, go say thanks to them for that (i mean escargot’s admins)
Didn’t MSNPSharp implement MSNP21? Or doesn’t it have any documentation?
It does, but then you have to write a server for the client to connect to.
That’s the problem. Some of these SOAP services are really obtuse in their exact implementation and MSNPSharp’s WSDL’s aren’t exactly accurate for really important parts.
I see, thanks. It was long ago, so probably I misremembered. I mean I used Butterfly Messenger by curiosity and it did list a lot of things about contacts, services, etc. than the WLM client. And I supposed it was because of full implementation and developer stats. Which were obviously not displayed in the official client for avoid bothering USERS who does not care about technical details, they just want to use the product without any distraction.
Anyhow, Escargot does not support WLM 2011/2012 and given recent events that doesn’t seem likely any time soon.
CrossTalk DOES support it (as shown by the screenshots I just sent
) but it’s not yet complete, nor do we have proper login service patches ready yet. But it DOES work.
I hope that you will revive what was supposed to be on the left side of the UI (i mean the home page) because that part is also interesting.
Was you able to revive the embed videos within the file sharing window? It was one of the reasons I liked WLM 2011/2012 back then (semi-offtopic: but the other thing they did I disliked. It was the forcing the use of “real” name instead of the username in those versions, so you either left the surname field empty or did use zero-width character to mimic the old version username). I liked the file sharing next to the converation window more than the above of conversation window version in 2009. And it was one plus option, if I inserted a youtube video url the video could be played inside that window, I did not need to open a browser or new tab. So you were able to see the shared video with your partner at the same time just like the pics.
But if I remember correctly it did stop to work around 2012 so maybe youtube changed something. Or I misremember and it did work only inside of WLM 2011, because of the HTTP instead of HTTPS, or MSNP20 and MSNP21 differency, but I doubt it.
Do you mean this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7r78WOy77g
I did like that photo gallery next to the conversations too.
WLM 2012 got revived before GTA 6!!!
is it fully functionable, like stable to talk with friends?
if yes, how do i download it
Just said it’s not complete. You can message your friends (and if they’re also using 2011/2012, use P2P features), but downloads/patching instructions are not publicly available for multiple reasons.
Our current patches (which involve changing the RST2 endpoint in IDCRL’s configuration file) break the Microsoft Accounts service on Windows 8 and newer, so most things using Microsoft Accounts on those operating systems will no longer function. Windows 10/11 also encrypt your credentials within the authentication request (not like they aren’t already, they’re sent over HTTPS, but this secures it against MITM attacks), and CrossTalk also does not support that yet, so for now it will not work under any circumstance on those OSes. There are technically ways to work around this, as hacky as they may be, but that isn’t really something I’d want end users doing on their machines.
The implementation is also generally unfinished. While instant messages work, a lot of essential functionality like managing your contact list, setting your status message, P2P with older clients, Circles/Multiparties et cetera are not yet implemented, but this we plan on rectifying all of these within the upcoming server update(s).
You are recommended to stick to 2009 or older for now.
If you insist on using 2011/2012, join our Discord server, get the Testers role, and you can find the patching instructions from there.
I see. So, if I understand correctly, getting WLM 2011/2012 to work without disrupting the rest of the operating system is much more complicated than it was with WLM 2009. Even then, an additional patch had to be applied to make it work on versions later than 24H2. According to your response, with WLM 2011/2012, you would have to delve even deeper into the system components. The fact that there is a technical way to do it is good news, and it’s understandable that you wouldn’t want end users to have to modify too many things on their everyday operating systems. I wish you the best and thank you for all your work so far!
Shoving the windows 7 version of esent.dll in the contacts barely counts as a patch.
Windows 10/11 dosen’t encrypt your credentials, It does use various ways of encryption tho which are not related to credentials for example PPSecure binary tokens (To authenticate to various services) as well as DeviceTokens to assign your device to the Login.Live.com servers and for CLip Xbox licensing.
Patching modern WLID is kind of tricky because of this, which is why I am working on a decomp/analysis of WLID version 10 which will help anyone working with modern WLID stuff.
