Hello, can anyone reading this message please contact Microsoft Support and ask them to restore Skype to Phone services? I was subscribed to a plan called World Extended, which allows me to call mobile phones and landlines in 63 countries. The only thing that gives me some hope is the presence of an option in Microsoft Teams called Skype Dial Pad. When you click on it, it takes you to your Skype account. This option, as I understood from an article I read from Microsoft, basically states that anyone who had credit in their account before Skype was shut down can use their credit even after Skype is shut down. This is to ensure people don’t lose their rights to credit they purchased but didn’t use. Therefore, Microsoft has included the Skype Dial Pad option in Microsoft Teams.
The important thing now is that I need paid Skype phone services, but I can’t really use the Skype Dial Pad option in Microsoft Teams because I don’t have any credit or a monthly subscription. What is the solution? I contacted Microsoft’s Live Chat support, and they told me what I originally expected: that paid Skype phone services have been discontinued. I believe, in my heart of hearts, that these services will not return to Teams in the easy, convenient, and smooth way, with the appropriate price, and the clarification of the countries you want to call, the subscriptions, and all that talk like Skype, except under pressure from the people. Therefore, I ask everyone who reads this message to contact Microsoft and inform them of the necessity of restoring Skype phone services, as many people who relied on them have been deprived of them without a good and clear alternative like Skype. Teams Phone is complicated and completely unclear about which countries I can call, and it is very expensive. I expect that Microsoft will not respond to this request of mine unless there are many requests from users to restore phone services and pressure on them with this demand.
Thank you for your time in reading this message. I truly appreciate this and hope you can help me with this matter
Just to make sure, https://calling.web.skype.com/ says you have no activated paid products?
And no information about your plan shows up on https://secure.skype.com/portal/overview (or any further things on the page)?
What’s this? An disgruntled elder who’s sad his favorite messaging service shut down months earlier?
One weird thing is that in December, they stopped allowing credits to be purchased and wanted people to switch to the subscriptions, but then two months later they announced the end of the subs (and the client).
It is unexpected, the credits/subs were (or should be) mostly profit. It’s not as though Teams or Microsoft 365 doesn’t still use telephony/PSTN services for the business customers. I suppose it’s another example of Microsoft exiting their end-user customer businesses.
But there are plenty of alternatives, although the one I have seen more frequently cited that’s supposedly similar to World Extended, would be Viber’s Viber Out.
Unfortunately, Viber Out does not include calling my country in the monthly subscription, while I can buy regular credit in Viber Out and call my country. When I noticed the price, it was a bit high, so in my opinion, monthly subscriptions that include several countries are always much cheaper… I really miss the World Extended service from Skype, as it allowed me to call my country, Palestine, to check on my family and friends Now I am deprived of such a great service and I am still looking for an economical alternative. I actually found the Viber Out service about 4 months ago, but the available monthly subscription allows me to call Israel, not Palestine, so I will not benefit from it as I did with Skype
