As the bastion of backwards compatibility (and slow rollouts), Microsoft rarely shuts things down, especially not quickly, instead they transition them over time. The announcements/dates are to push the goal forward.
As an outsider looking in, modern Skype was already on Teams’ infrastructure anyway, and the new “Skype dialer” is clearly a tweaked version of the Skype web app. At least in some form or another, I don’t think Skype will be disappearing all together any time soon.
Also, I was thinking about this the other day, if you made an account on HoTMaiL in 96/97 (like I did), you’ve transitioned through multiple companies, services, backends, address book systems, protocols, and had almost 30 years of service with a single account. AOL probably has the oldest accounts possible though.
Yea microsoft is so bad at shutdowning things. BRO ITS AUGUST 15 AND ITS STILL WORKING FINE
I’m pretty sure the goal wasn’t to shutdown Skype, it was to shutdown the extra jobs that were needed to maintain separate applications for the same thing.
On further reflection, it probably would’ve been a better strategy for them to announce that Skype was going into the Teams app as “Skype Teams” and called the whole thing a transition instead.
Yea i thinked about that cus when i calling on teams its ringing on skype. That means they have the same servers with teams
update on the windows 10 meet now “feature”: both buttons now redirect to some landing page for teams. maybe they have removed it in an update but i haven’t updated my shit in a while.
