I wanted to make my own post about this topic. You remember downloading these cool winks from websites. Man, they are fun to mess around with your computer.

And these toolbars by Kiwee, SweetIM, and HiYo? Now there’s the nostalgia you wan’t.

So, what are your thoughts? (I’m also just curious is these still work in today or not)

I remember the “third-party” winks, but I avoided the toolbars themselves. If I remember right, the accompanying adware certainly wasn’t worth it. Although in certain markets/countries the cost of buying a wink was fairly steep.

The modern “sticker” equivalents of these really don’t hit the same. I’m not sure if it’s the size or the sound, or both.

Also, I was thinking the other day, none of the winks (built-in or otherwise) ever became fully viral or got meme status, which I think is a bit weird.
