To friends who love nostalgia：
Over the past decade or so, the internet has changed dramatically, and people’s ways of working and looking at things have also evolved. But while we use modern internet services, do we ever think back to the afternoons spent checking emails on Windows Live Mail, or the amazement of using Office Live for the first time? Even though they are gone now (some services have been replaced, like Windows Live SkyDrive becoming OneDrive, and Windows Live Mail being integrated into Outlook), as nostalgia enthusiasts, we want to try to get them back through our own efforts.
On the Messenger Geek platform, I’ve seen everyone’s efforts with Escargot, Crosstalk, the Skype community, MSN revival, all of these are testimonies. But it’s still not enough, the Internet Archive stores over a trillion web pages, and we may have only recovered less than one hundred millionth of them. And the purpose of this post is to find the service I most want to restore among the vast number of already shut down internet services: Windows Live.
Windows Live Messenger has already had teams working to bring it back through services like Escargot Chat, so you don’t need to worry too much.
Windows Live Mail is a general-purpose software that can access any email service, so there’s no need to restore it.
Windows Live Writer, same as above.
Windows Live Movie Maker and Windows Live Photo Gallery don’t need the internet, so there’s no need to restore.
However, services like Windows Live SkyDrive, Windows Live Mesh and Office Live that have already been replaced or disappeared haven’t been restored by anyone yet. That’s one of the purposes of this post. I know it might infringe copyright laws, or some might think it’s unnecessary, but I still want to give it a try, hoping someone can do it, thanks!
