Because you are not forced to use a specific version of Ubuntu. You can choose lubuntu, kubuntu, xubuntu…
i should start to make a xubuntu of lubuntu vmware tho ._.

All of the flavors are just Ubuntu with a different desktop environment. Other distros can also have different desktop environments.
kubuntu uses kde
xubuntu uses xfce
ubuntu mate uses well… mate
lubuntu uses LXDE / LXQT
etc etc
Idk, distros such as Fedora also have these desktop environments. And I think people vote on Ubuntu because it’s the only name they know.
