NotSkype - A Skype Web API Revival

After quite some work and effort, we are proud to finally announce our project, NotSkype, has now reached General Availability! We have managed to host a custom server for the Skype Web API, and thus have revived the Skype Web Wrapper (2017 Skype for Linux-based) clients. Features including IM, Group Chats, and Voice calling have already been implemented.

Currently, we have gotten the KSkype client to connect and work with our server, and we are expecting our patches for ReSkype (3.2) and Skype Classic 4 to be finished very soon.

As this is a custom revival server, it does not currently contain connections to Microsoft Teams etc. This includes accounts and chats, which have to be created on our servers. More information and future important updates are sent in our Discord.

Known quirks/issues

  1. Video calls are not implemented yet

  2. Voice calls can be finicky

  3. New contacts/chats require a client Refresh to show/load properly

And on the topic of Skype 5/6, since it is a patch for the Skype Web Wrappers/Skype for Linux, it is only using the Skype 7 UI. However we are also planning to add Skype 6 (and other) themes soon.

I would suggest for you to take a look at our project first before making such comments. It is and already has been functional/working since I made this post. Additionally, please consult our Discord server for more information.

Do not tell me to wait when I am forced to use something as bad discord discord is the absolute worst skype is my 2012 childhood I will even send you money using paypal to make skype come back right now

For anyone else reading
Our project is considered complete.
All major features have been properly implemented (or to an acceptable standard).

We are now working on further expanding our network, possibly including support for other IM protocols (eg WLM).
