MSN Winks Rewired, literally as a keychain!

Dear MSN Buddies! First of all, a massive THANK YOU to the Escargot team and this community for keeping MSN Messenger alive. I am an active user since 2000!

As an independent inventor, I wanted to bring a piece of our childhood into the real world. So, I spent months building WinksTrigger—physical, premium acrylic keychains with built-in NFC chips.

I collected over 300 long lost but never forgotten MSN Winks, convert and progam them to the Chip. I manually pixel draw the very best frame of each wink, then print them out, cut them and place them, my logo and chip inside the case.

When you tap your smartphone against the keychain, your favorite winks instantly burst onto your screen with their original animations and high-volume sound effects!

I wanted to share this with the only community on Earth that truly understands the magic of MSN. Here is a picture of the finished prototypes from my workshop. I like the premise but I have to admit I was expecting these to have a lenticular printed animation of the wink on them (i.e. you could see the essential frames of the animation by turning them). I’m not sure how viable that is to create though.

Out of curiosity, have you tried your NFC tag trick with mainstream smartwatches?

Thank you for your reply! Well, the main focus was on the digital winks, to appear on the screens of smart phones so everyone can revive the nostalgia of the msn winks and to show them to people never heard about them. The drawing on the keychain is just a visual indicator to show which wink is programmed on the chip. I am not even sure how could I make the image the way you described. :slight_smile:

Well, I don’t think smart watches would be able to read these chips and even if they would, the experience on that tiny screen wouldn’t be good enough.

Would you like to have one of these WinksTriggers? :slight_smile: You work so diligently always and thank to you, we could use MSN/WLM even when it was officially dead. :slight_smile:
