Is the msnmsgr.exe-escargot.ini file filled with the required information to connect to Escargot? It should look like this:

server=msnmsgr.escargot.chat
configserver=conf.escargot.chat
where on the files may I find the ini file?
C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\ or C:\Program FIles\MSN Messenger\
If it is not there (with escargot.dll), you probably need to patch the main executable yourself. Read Connection Guides | Escargot | MSN Messenger and Windows Live Messenger for more information.
