Nope to both questions. When you use Messenger with Escargot, it’s completely separated from Microsoft’s servers.

To change your display name on Windows Messenger, you need to open the contact list window, then go to the Tools menu, then Options, then change your name in the top field marked My .NET Messenger Service Display Name and click OK.
