on escargot, you used to be able to have your email set to whatever you wanted, even if it wasn’t a real email address. they changed this in 2022 so that every escargot account had a “modernized” @escargot.chat email address (Modernize yourself! - News | Escargot | MSN Messenger and Windows Live Messenger). which afaik was done amongst other reasons to hide the user’s actual email address from malicious individuals.
now, crosstalk uses emails for msn, but it seems like this is akin to pre-modernization escargot. so my question is: hypothetically, if someone had an invalid email but forgot their password, are they screwed? or is the crosstalk account email address seperate from the msn login email address?
For those servers that have a Sign-In address seperate from their Account address, this is less of a problem.
But for what I know, CrossTalk (and everything except Escargot) uses exclusively EASI, Escargot in this case is the outlier with the escargot.chat provider.
For now, yes, however in the meantime you can get into contact with me with proof of ownership of the account, and I’ll reset your password.
We’re working on implementing e-mail verification (so you can’t use fake addresses) as well as an optional alias system if you don’t want to share your e-mail address with others. That way, you could use <your-username>@crosstalk.im as your e-mail inside of MSN etc, like Escargot post-modernization.
