If you’re using a Tweener/RST-based version of the protocol, then you’d have to modify Pidgin to work correctly.
The suspect is libmsn.dll, but it doesn’t store the URL in full, from my observations. It’s the base URL first, then the GET request for where it will then connect to the respective authentication services.
Someone would more or less have to get the Pidgin source code and recompile it from the ground up in order for it to support Escargot.
