Alternatives to discord?

i’ve used this site before. that said, i’m taking a little break from discord, but part of me still wants to use it. are there any alternatives to discord that even discord users have (with real-time responding and all)?

i’m using stoat, root, teamspeak, nerimity and matrixchat, for example. seriously!

What’s wrong with WLM?

i’ve poked around on root and found that you can import your discord server’s template [text and voice channels, not the messages] right into your new root server, so i’m kind of leaning towards that these days after recent news of discord requiring id’s/facial verification from some users

are there any messengers on here (either revivals or not) that are encrypted in any way? i’d love to use a good old (or new) instant messenger as a discord alternative, but i also do value a bit of security haha

Signal?

i learned about fluxer today, it’s crazy how much it looks like discord.

Alternatives: Revolt, Fluxer, IRC, Matrix, etc.

Is KakaoTalk still around? I remember using it some time years ago, before I used Discord. The pc version wasnt too far off from the ICQ UI as far as i remember?? Is it still that way, and used? And how is the encryption and stuff with it? I never hear about it anymore.

Also, anyone remember PowWow? What happened to that? Ive never seen anyone use that anymore lol or even try to like, revise it in any way?

Wow, that unlocked a memory, I forgot the existence of that.

Per PowWow (chat program) - Wikipedia, they discontinued it in 2001. I searched through my old files to see if I had anything PowWow related around. The only thing I found was an old bookmark to the site regarding IE3 support, PowWow and Internet Explorer 3.0.

Haha, yeah I never see anyone mention that program anymore. and I cant even find videos of it being used or really talked about. Which I find so strange, because iirc it was quite popular/widely used?

I’m curious as to how it worked, how it worked compared to other messaging systems of the time/later era and just in general, how secure it was, if at all, what the pros and cons were etc.
