I’ve recreated the Microsoft ChatControl 4.5 experience, but with some modern features.
Just to be clear: I didn’t use any of Microsoft’s original ChatControl code. I mainly tried to recreate the look, feel, and overall experience. Everything runs completely in HTML5.
I also wanted to recreate more than just the chat window itself. The project includes the whole environment around it. You can create an account, create chat rooms, become a room owner, give ownership to other users, and so on. There’s also a bot running in the background that monitors the chats and handles moderation.
I spent a lot of time on MSN Chat when I was younger, right up until Microsoft shut it down. Back then I was basically a little script kiddie, experimenting with mIRC scripts and modifying them to do what I wanted. Guessing room passwords and finding ways around bans and kicks were also part of the fun back then. 
Recently I had some time off and thought it would be a fun personal project to try and recreate that experience.
Of course, it’s not a 100% identical copy. I deliberately made some things different because I don’t want to simply copy Microsoft’s original work or run into copyright issues.
Originally, I was only building this for myself as a nostalgia project, but after looking around this forum, it seems like there might still be some interest in something like this.
I’d be happy to make it publicly available with all of its features. Before doing that, though, I wanted to see if there’s actually enough interest in it, since I would have to pay for hosting and other costs myself.
If anyone has ideas on how I could cover some of those costs, I’d be interested to hear them as well.
Any feedback, suggestions, or ideas are welcome. And if you think there simply isn’t much demand for something like this anymore, feel free to say that too. 
I’ve included a few screenshots so you can get an idea of what it currently looks like.
At the moment, most of the interface is in Dutch, since that’s my native language. If I decide to make the project public, I’m planning to support English, Dutch, German, and French.
