Skype 8 Is Back Without Revivals!

I think the possible confusion here is the wrong version being mentioned. The later versions of Skype technically can still sign in because they use the same infrastructure as Teams Personal. However, they don’t work very well and I don’t find it all that usable.

Try this instead (courtesy of @ErrorOliver)

  • Add config.edge.skype.com and get.skype.com to your hosts file with the IP 0.0.0.0.
If you want a graphical interface way of doing that, there is a hosts file editor in the Powertoys. Adding these will block Windows from connecting to these hosts.
  • You can also add edge.skype.com, but I haven’t found that one necessary.
  • Download Skype version 8.138.0.213.exe. It’s digitally signed and has not been modified.
  • Sign in to Skype.

As eeky already mentioned, calls will go through, but in my experience, messaging does not work at all. It can also take a while to get signed in the first time.
