I don’t expect this to be like a whole topic to be addressed but I recently got inspired from ppl reviving old laptops and kinda need to find or know about laptop models that were made during the Windows 8 era just for shits and giggles.
I kinda wanna get my hands on a touchscreen laptop from that time whis would have some basic specs such as:
— 16 gigs of RAM (i think there were models where you could swap them.)
— a CPU (preferably Intel core i5) ( Examples: i5-3210M, i5-3230M, i5-4200U /// might contain 2 cores / 4 threads ? I’m not sure, since I don’t know much about CPU’s unfortunately)
— a dedicated GPU (preferably a NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M / GT 750M, since I wanna try era appropriate games if it makes sense)
That’s pretty much it, but anyway I’m really looking forward to seeing what you guys would recommend and again if I messed something up with the specs I mentioned above please correct me because again I don’t know MUCH about hardware BUT I’m trying to figure out if it’s possible yk? Anyway that’s all tbh.
You would be looking for something built around 2012 - 2014.
Correct me if i’m wrong, but I don’t remember any touchscreen machine from this time coming with 16GB of RAM. I also highly doubt any gaming laptops would sport a touchscreen. That may be asking way too much. I’ll make a list of some touchscreen laptops from the time. I’m sure you could find one on eBay or any other regional variant you may have.
Surface RT (2012). Runs on ARM instead of x86, so software support at the time was terrible. Only 2GB of RAM. Likely Integrated Graphics.
Surface Pro (2013). Runs with an i5-3317U, with 4GB RAM. Intel HD Graphics 4000.
Surface Pro 2 (2013). Earlier models run the i5-4200U, but later models run the i5-4300U. With 4/8 GB RAM.
Surface Pro 3 (2014). Runs either i3-4020Y, i5-4300U or the i7-4650U.
Asus VivoBook S200 (2012). Intel Pentium 987. 4GB RAM.
Acer Aspire V5-571P (~2012). Has an i5-3317U. 4GB RAM.
Toshiba Satellite P845T-S4310 (~2012). Has an i5-3317U. 6GB RAM. Sources reveal that this one uses a 5,400 RPM Hard drive. It may need replacing.
Oh my god thank you sooooo so much for the recommendations, also sorry if this feels extra but dyk any all in one pcs that were also available during the windows 8 era (8.0) ?
Lenovo C20-05 (~2014-2015). Bit of a weird one. Earlier photos show WIndows 8.1 running, but later ones show Windows 10. According to Shi.com, it has a 1TB HDD, 8GB RAM, and a Radeon R5 M330.
Toshiba LX830-11D (~2012). According to Currys’ Business Site, It runs Windows 8, has a 23” display, 1TB HDD, an i3-3110M, and 4GB RAM. The RAM also seems to be expandable to 16GB.
Gigabyte GB-AE21T (~2012). Seemingly obscure. Only reviews that i could find are in french. Seems to run the “Third generation core CPUs” (that’s all that was said), Doesn’t talk about RAM either.
HP Envy 23 (~2013). According to PCWorld, it has an i7-3770S, 12GB RAM, and a 3TB HDD.
Samsung Series 7 (~2013), According to PCWorld, it has an i5-3470T, 6 GB RAM, and a 1TB HDD
