For shutting down the Windows Marketplace
Respectfully, it wasn’t that great practically. For the hardware side, it was a product aggregator site, showing only links to other real stores.
On the software side, there wasn’t a benefit or value buying through the Marketplace site. The price was usually the same as buying it directly from the individual software company or another store where you would also get a disc.
Also, like the current Microsoft Store and other app stores, there was a lot of borderline scam software (when I checked archive.org to validate my memory, the first thing I saw was ‘Mobile Ringtone Converter’ for $15).
And of course, outside of the United States, most of this wasn’t available anyway.

So it’s basically just a worse Games for Windows LIVE marketplace for hardware products..?
Mostly for generic computer software. But yes.
