I know I’m a bit late to this thread, but can’t you just still use Windows without activating it? I don’t know if this counts for XP, but I had a Windows 7 machine that I didn’t want to activate, and it just let me still use it, the only problems I had were that it reset my wallpaper to black every time I logged on and it kept begging me to activate it all of the time.

I actually downloaded a Windows XP ISO from the Internet and it didn’t require activating, since it was shareware or something and it had already been registered in somebody’s name.

I’m pretty sure there are product keys lying around on the Internet that might work. Although Windows Embedded POS Ready would be a far better choice for people using XP for serious stuff in 2018, since it still has another year of updates, there are a ton of product keys for it online that work on multiple machines, and because you can literally get the ISO for free from Microsoft’s website.

That is true. Most software is now dropping support for XP and the web browsing experience isn’t exactly the best on it anymore.
